Gas Prices and Traffic Got You Down? Make OmniRide Your New Ride!

For Immediate Release: 03/28/2022

Many in Northern Virginia and the National Capital Region are being recalled to the office, and that may include you. With rising gas prices, a trip to the gas pump will put a dent in your wallet.  At the same time, road congestion is approaching pre-pandemic levels.  For commuters driving alone this means an expensive and stressful daily commute.  OmniRide’s family of mobility services could be the solution.

OmniRide is the operating name for the mobility services offered by the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission (PRTC). The organization provides Local and Commuter bus service, ridesharing options, and OmniRide’s Employer Services assists local employers who wish to establish or expand an employee transportation program.

BUS SERVICE

The organization provides Local bus service in Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park; Express service for commuters along the I-95 and I-66 corridors to employment centers in Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C.; and Metro Express which connects riders with Metro Stations. Local and Metro Express services are currently FREE. OmniRide is also offering a ½ fare discount on the western commuter routes that travel I-66.

RIDESHARING

OmniRide’s ridesharing program is a FREE, personalized ridematching service that will help you find a carpool or vanpool! OmniRide Ridesharing uses the Commuter Connections database to link commuters who live and work near one another and who have similar work hours. Many carpools and vanpools start at commuter lots within the Prince William area, bound for destinations throughout Northern Virginia, the District and Maryland. Carpools average three people per vehicle and no payment is necessary. Vanpools typically carry between seven to 15 passengers. Payment is via SmartBenefits or by private payment.

“In calendar year 2021 vanpool reduced 17.9 million miles of vehicle traffic in the DMV area,” said Ben Matters, Program Manager for Vanpool Alliance. “As gas prices continue to rise vanpooling can be a great way to save time and money.”

EMPLOYER SERVICES

OmniRide Employer Services are FREE for all businesses in Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park and include assistance with Carpool/Vanpool formation, Telework Programs, Biking/Walking to work, Transit Subsidies, Employee Commute Surveys and Emergency Preparedness.

Holly Morello, Program Manager for OmniRide Transportation Demand Management, said, “These services help employers offer programs that can reduce the stress and expense that accompany their employees’ daily commutes - important things to consider as congestion continues to ramp up across the region and gas prices continue to climb.”
