Teen Programs

Teens are striving for independence, but some don’t have driver’s licenses yet – or don’t have permission to borrow the car. OmniRide Local buses are the perfect solution. OmniRide Local buses are safe and economical with routes serving Dale City, Dumfries, Manassas, Manassas Park, the Route 1 corridor and Woodbridge/Lake Ridge. There’s even a East-West Express to link eastern Prince William County with the Manassas area!

No car? No problem with your 2019 Teen Summer Bus Pass!

OmniRide's Teen Summer Bus Pass is back for 2019!  Where will you go?

With a Summer Bus Pass, those ages 13-19 get unlimited rides for three months on all OmniRide Local buses and on OmniRide East-West Express buses for a one-time cost of $30 if you already have a SmarTrip card. If you don't already have a SmarTrip card, there's an additional $2 fee to purchase one.

This summer, passes will be valid for unlimited local rides between June 1 and August 31, 2019 - that's 3 full months!

When boarding the bus, teens simply tap their SmarTrip card to the fare box and find a seat.  It's that simple!

Want to travel outside the local area? Just pay the difference between the local and commuter bus fare!  You'll be able to board OmniRide Express buses and travel to Washington, D.C., nearby Metro stations and more!

How to Purchase a Teen Summer Bus Pass

The Summer Bus Pass is easy to buy and will make it convenient and fun to get around this summer! Just visit the OmniRide Transit Center and bring proof that you’re a teen. Your Summer Bus Pass will be loaded onto a SmarTrip® card for you, and you'll get unlimited local bus rides all summer long for one price! Already have a SmarTrip® card? Bring your card when buying your pass and save the $2 card purchase fee. And be sure to register your card at SmarTrip.com! That way if it’s ever lost or stolen, the value can be transferred just by purchasing a new card for $2.

How to Use a Summer Bus Pass

When boarding an OmniRide Local bus, tap your SmarTrip® card to the farebox. The farebox will recognize your Summer Bus Pass and won’t charge you for local trips. (Off-route trip surcharges still apply.) Then take a seat and you’re on your way!

If you’re planning to travel outside the local area, you’ll need to load additional money on the card to pay the difference between the Local bus fare and the Express bus fare. You can add value to your card online at SmarTrip.com, on the bus (cash only), at the OmniRide Transit Center, at Metro stations, or at select SmarTrip® sales locations. Learn more at SmarTrip.com.

How to Catch a Ride

  • Find the bus stop that’s closest to you by checking out the Schedules and Maps section for Local buses at OmniRide.com, or picking up a printed schedule at one of many convenient locations around town.
  • Stand at the bus stop closest to you. When the bus arrives, check the sign above the window to make sure it’s the bus you want to ride. Still not sure? Just ask the friendly bus operator.

  • While on the bus, pay attention to where you are. When your bus stop is about one block away, pull the cord above the window to let the operator know that you want to be let off at the next stop.

How to Read the Bus Schedule

The route map at the top of the SAMPLE schedule to the right shows where the bus makes stops along the route. Bus stops are shown either as a simple black dot or a numbered timepoint that matches up with the timetable below the map.

To plan your trip:

  • Look at the headings above the timetable to find the bus stop that’s closest to you.

  • When you find the bus stop you want to use, follow that column down to see what time the bus will arrive.

  • If there’s no time listed for the bus stop you plan to use, select the numbered bus stop before yours as a guide.

  • Plan to arrive at the bus stop 5 minutes earlier than the listed time.
