OmniRide Bus Fire on March 4, 2025

Posted: 03/05/2025

On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at approximately 3:45 p.m. OmniRide coach #3005 experienced a flat tire on northbound I-95 while traveling back to D.C. after dropping off passengers in Spotsylvania County. There were no passengers on board the vehicle. The coach operator safely pulled over to alert dispatch for further instruction.

The tire became wrapped around the axle and began to smoke; before fire services could arrive, fire had expanded into the coach which is a total loss.

Our fleet is safe and our top priority is safely transporting our passengers to their destinations. We have reviewed the preventive maintenance records, including tire records, along with the most recent state vehicle inspection which occurred in January 2025. The vehicle was safe and in proper working order when it incurred the flat tire, which occasionally happens during service. Our contractor Keolis is already taking extended corrective action to ensure that this does not occur again and they’re conducting an ongoing investigation.

We are independently investigating the timeline of events and will cooperate fully with Virginia Highway Patrol and Prince William Fire & Rescue. OmniRide thanks the first responders who arrived within minutes and worked so hard to minimize the impact. We sincerely apologize for the negative impact this had on our passengers’ afternoon commute.
