OmniRide Fare-Free Friday, June 9

Rides will be FREE all day on Friday, June 9, on all OmniRide Express buses that connect Prince William and Manassas area residents to points northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. This gives residents a no-cost travel option, that helps to reduce emissions during this period of poor air quality.

“A benefit of riding public transportation, like OmniRide, is that it can help combat additional air pollution by getting single occupancy vehicles off the road. This is especially beneficial on days with poor and smoky air quality – like the ones we been having due to the wildfires in Canada,” said OmniRide Chief Development Officer Joe Stainsby. “For every passenger mile traveled, public transportation uses ½ the fuel consumed by cars, and 1/3 of that used by SUVs and light trucks.”

Taking public transportation or riding the bus also allows for a more enjoyable, peaceful ride versus driving in the Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. traffic. Passengers can get a head start on managing emails or catching up on reading to prepare for a work project. They can also decompress on the ride home, ready to engage with their family when they arrive.

Even individuals who only commute to work once or twice a week can benefit from public transportation. Any day an individual commutes on OmniRide buses they can save money on gas and on tolls for the Express Lanes. It’s also one less day of wear and tear on their vehicle – adding up to less money on car maintenance overall.

OmniRide’s goal is to provide safe, reliable and flexible transportation options while helping to reduce congestion and pollution in one of the region's fastest growing areas. Taking public transportation is a way for anyone to contribute to reducing congestion and pollution.
